Databases for Both Textbooks and Borrowers
A TEXT
database indexed on textbook number
(hereinafter referred to as textnum), title
and publisher. Additional fields in the TEXT
database include: Copyright, Edition, ISBN,
Cost, Purchasing Date, Purchasing Dept.,
Budget Category, Type of Text, Vendor's
Information and a Notes field.
Computerized
assignment of textnums for texts generated
from Master Texts. For example, 150 Algebra
101 textnums are automatically generated
from one Algebra 101 Master Text with a
single command. Listing of all Master Texts
along with number of texts generated for
each, texts in, out and missing. Texts
may be checked out for a semester or year
time period. Listing of texts checked out to
borrowers printed or on screen.
A borrower
database indexed on borrower number
(hereinafter referred to as borronum) and
last name includes address and graduation
year, outstanding fines and number of texts
out. Fast screen entry of borrower's city,
state and zip code based on predefined
cities from the Information Editor.
Selected
lists of borrowers, or borronums. Texts,
Textnums or or Texts Out to Borrowers can be
printed. Rotary card maker for easy
access to borrower information at check-out
location. Printout of borronums or textnums
used is available.
Fast and
Efficient Circulation Management
3-way check
out of texts; 1) by remote MSDOS
microcomputer from which a disk is
downloaded into the main computer, 2) with
forms submitted by teachers which are then
submitted for processing at the main
computer, or 3) at the main computer itself.
Express check out of "class sets"
of texts to be checked out to teachers.
Batch check in of all texts at semester or
year end after not returned texts are
entered. Not returned notice will send to
the printer fullpage letters sorted by
borrower's last name for use in a window
envelope which lists the title and price of
the text.
A fines form,
included in the user's manual is used to set
fines for textbook damages. Fines notices
can be printed which are sorted by
borrower's last name and are suitable for
mailing in a window envelope.
Information
editor sets predefined cities and zip codes,
daily password protection in all editor
areas can be deactivated at this editor
screen.
Self-Generated
Reports
List
textbooks checked out sorted by teacher and
period indicating borronum, name, graduation
year, textnum, title and cost of book. List
texts not returned indicating borronum,
name, graduation year, textnum, title and
cost of the textbook. Fines list of
borrowers, sorted by borrower's last name,
who owe fines and have been sent a fines
notice. All reports are on
computer-generated forms - (NO SPECIAL FORMS
ARE NEEDED). System information window lists
the status of all of the databases and bytes
free on the hard disk with the option to
send listing to the printer.
Remote
Inventory
Inventory
system whereby a text's bar code is scanned
with a portable handheld bar code reader.
Data from the portable unit is then dumped
back into the computer with Auto
Librarian™ Textbook Version 2.0. A printed
list of missing texts is produced. Inventory
discrepancies can be reconciled
individually. Texts are tagged with a
MISSING label when searched from the TEXT
database.
Two Levels of
Onboard Help
A two-tier
help system which includes a memory resident
version of the manual whereby selections can
be searched with a find command. When Auto
Librarian™ Textbook Version 2.0 is running
the memory resident help system is ALWAYS
available.

Optional
password protection can be turned on, off,
and can be edited.

A full
featured word processor to set up customized
letters to print to selected borrowers.

Label Generation
BAR LABEL 39,
developed by MC˛ SYSTEMS,
included with Auto Librarian™ Textbook
Version 2.0, prints
a bar code label with a title up to 20
characters and numbers up to 11 digits with
readable numbers for use with or without a bar
code reader. Bar code labels can be
printed for borrowers and textbooks.
Hard
Disk Backup
BACK-IT,
included with Auto Librarian™ Textbook
Version 2.0, is a fully automated, one
command back up program which is fast and
easy to use.

can handle an unlimited number of records (2
billion). Therefore the only limitation on
collection size is the size of the hard disk
drive.
The optional bar
code reader serves both as a
non-portable for Auto Librarian™ Textbook
Version 2.0
operations and as a portable reader for
inventory. No special hardware is needed to
connect to the computer - it interfaces
through the keyboard plug.
In case of
power failure database files opened are
always safe. Auto Librarian™ Textbook
Version 2.0 is capable of detecting
peripheral hardware errors (example: printer
not on).
